Vicki Haines, Office Coordinator
Vickie has invested 17 years of her career as a dental hygienist and orthodontic assistant at 2 Wall Street. She spent 7 years in Bennington, Vermont, where she was employed as Office Manager for the practice of two general dentists. She returned to the Concord area in 2005 and joined the practice again to contribute to the administrative needs.
Vickie graduated from NHTI and was a Registered Dental Hygienist in a private dental practice before joining our practice. She is CPR certified, as well as having served as a First Responder on a volunteer rescue squad. She continues to attend relative seminars and courses in order to stay updated on the latest orthodontic techniques and products.
When she is not working, Vickie volunteers her time to both the Friendly Kitchen and Cold Weather Shelter in Concord. She and her husband, John, enjoy kayaking, cross country skiing and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and grand-daughter. She also enjoys taking knitting classes and knitting for family and friends.

Katie L. Bachelder, Clinic Coordinator
Katie’s role in our office is to provide direct support to the Doctor and Clinical Assistants so they may focus solely on the patient in order to provide the utmost care. She maintains patient flow so that we can make the best use of the time that our patients and parents spend in our office. She regularly attends lectures as well as hands on courses to keep up with the latest advances in orthodontics and to better her skills as a Clinic Coordinator and chair side assistant.
Katie graduated from NHTI in 2004 with a certificate in Dental Assisting as well as a certificate in Dental Radiology. She is also CPR certified, which she renews on a bi-annual basis. Katie completed one of three externships with our office in July 2004 and joined us full time in September 2004. In her time with the practice, she has invested many hours into becoming cross-trained in our office. Since starting with our practice she has filled the roles of Records Technician, Treatment Coordinator, Clinical Technician, and maintains an active role in a number of our administrative tasks.
Katie has taken expanded orthodontic skills classes to become a Certified Orthodontic Assistant, and is now recognized by the American Association of Orthodontics as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant. Along with being employed with our office, she has worked as an instructor for a local dental assisting school, which has allowed her to maintain her general dental assisting skills that aid our patients with needs other than orthodontic care.
When she is not working, Katie can usually be found spending time with her family. In the summer months she spends a lot of time on her favorite beach in Wells, Maine. She also enjoys being outside with her very active dogs. Singing and scrapbooking are also things that she enjoys in her spare time.
Ann Hourigan, Clinical Technician
Ann has been associated with this practice for almost 25 years. A long time resident of Concord, she graduated from Concord High School. After her education at the University of New Hampshire, she went on to the School of Dental Hygiene at Westbrook College where she was an honors graduate and had the distinction of being inducted into Sigma Phi Alpha, the national Dental Hygiene Honor Society. Always a firm believer in continuing education in her profession, she has often had in excess of 60 CEU’s for the biennial renewal of her license, greatly exceeding the required 20 CEU’s.
Ann’s career spans 45 plus years in general practice and orthodontics, as well as 10 years as a part time adjunct clinical instructor in the Dental Hygiene program at NHTI. She has held memberships in the American Dental Hygiene Association, New Hampshire Dental Hygiene Association and is currently a New Hampshire Dental Society Allied Team Member.
She has found her association with Desmarais and Vermette Orthodontics most rewarding. She says there is nothing more satisfying than seeing patients finish their treatment with an improved smile that radiates happiness and confidence.
In addition to her duties at our practice, Ann also writes ad copy for the clients of a local graphic designer and marketing consultant. She has 2 Irish Terriers, who also challenge her. She has 2 adored sons, Nick and Jeremy of Boston, MA and Santa Cruz, CA, respectively. In June of 2011 her long wait for the title of Grannie Annie finally occurred with the arrival of Maisie June, aka “June Bug”. Not to be outdone by his brother, Nick’s contribution to her role as a grandmother arrives in January of 2012. Happy days are ahead for her!
Ruth Funk, Treatment Coordinator
Ruth is a Certified Orthodontic Assistant with a certificate in Dental Radiation, having completed courses at Tufts and NHTI. She started working as an orthodontic assistant in Texas in 1985 and while there, traveled to Honduras as part of a medical/dental team. She was instrumental in starting a program through the Texas practice to educate parents and children on good oral hygiene habits and the benefits of orthodontics. She was one of two assistants who traveled to area schools to visit classes. She lived and worked as an orthodontic assistant in the Boston area before moving to New Hampshire in 1990. She took a short hiatus as a stay-at-home mom and in that time was PTA president for two years in Henniker.
Ruth joined our practice in 2002, and in that time, she has worked chair side, taken records, seen patients at the initial exam and continues to do case presentations. These days you will most often see her at the front desk.
Ruth grew up in Ocean City, NJ, where she still has family. She attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in NC and while there, obtained her EMT certification. She continues to be CPR certified.
Ruth is a musician and vocalist and has performed publically. She is also a metal smith and in addition to making jewelry, which is sold in several shops around NH and NJ, she makes stained glass and baskets. She jokingly says that her love of metal work came from custom bending orthodontic wires! She is always happy to give classes in any of those mediums and has mentored high school seniors in both metal and glass work.
Karen Harris, Clinical Technician
Karen brings to us 20 years of dental experience, including a number of years with a pediatric practice providing orthodontic treatment as well. In 2004 she received her certification in Orthodontic Assisting to add to her 1990 NHTI certifications in Dental Assisting and Dental Radiology. In her non-working hours, Karen is very busy as a wife and mother of three. Her family enjoys many outdoor activities together throughout the year.
Emily Bibbo, Treatment Coordinator
Emily joined our team in 2008 as one of our Treatment Coordinators, welcoming new patients into our office. She is an expert at guiding our patients through the process of starting orthodontic treatment. Her experience as a parent of two teenage orthodontic patients, as well as her personal experience an adult orthodontic patient, provides a unique perspective that allows her to relate to both our patients and their families. Her diverse background has proven to be a valuable asset and we are excited to have her as part of our team.
Emily is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University having received a Bachelor of Arts in 1988. Her previous corporate experience included work as a contract administrator for the U.S. Navy and then as Director of Sales for Daka International. This, coupled with running her own business, Hooktail Interiors LLC, prepared her to help our patients navigate through the insurance processes and financial arrangements that facilitate investing in orthodontic treatment.
As a professional Treatment Coordinator, Emily has undergone specialty training. In addition to being CPR certified, she is also certified in dental radiology. She frequently attends continuing education seminars in orthodontics to stay abreast of the latest advances in orthodontic treatment for both adults and children.
In the winter you can find Emily snowmobiling in Maine or skiing in Vermont. Her spare time in the summer months is spent on the beach soaking up the sun and a good book. Throughout the year she will easily drop everything to set out for an unknown destination while checking out antique shops along the way. Of course, a good antique car show will always get her attention.
Emily enjoys nothing more than helping our patients achieve the confidence and well being that comes from a beautiful smile and improved dental health.
Ashley Colby, Clinical Technician
After starting out as a patient in our office, Ashley joined our staff in 2008 as our utility assistant working more behind the scenes. Working here has helped her see how there are many options in the dental field and led to her decision to enroll in the Dental Assisting program at NHTI.
The opportunity to first be a patient at our practice has given Ashley a unique opportunity to relate well with the needs of our patients. Ashley remembers what it was like having braces herself and is able to give our patients insight on what worked well for her during her treatment. She finds it easy to be able to explain to patients what they can expect after each visit to our office.
During her senior year of high school, Ashley joined our practice as our utility assistant. She quickly learned to help with the flow of the clinic, making sure that the chairs were clean and prepped for all of our clinical technicians. We always know that what ever we ask of her, she will get done in a timely manner and never have to worry about asking her to do new things.
As part of her requirements for the Dental Assisting program at NHTI, Ashley spent two of her outside rotations at our office getting more hands on experience. After completing the program in 2010, she became certified as a dental assistant with a certificate in Dental Radiology. She has since started her training as an orthodontic assistant.
When not working, Ashley can be found spending time with friends, embarking on the many adventures of life. Family is also important to her and she enjoys spending time with them along with her two little nieces. She is also looking forward to welcoming her new little niece (or nephew) in May of 2012. In her spare time, she is also working towards getting her Associates degree in Health Science at NHTI.
Jodi Dudek, Scheduling Coordinator
Jodi joined our team in 2009. She brings to our office over 22 years of orthodontic experience and training. Her background covers various roles that she has mastered over her career, including treatment coordinator, patient flow coordinator, scheduling coordinator, and marketing coordinator.
Jodi is a graduate of Plymouth State University, having received an Associate of Science degree in 1988. She has completed numerous seminars including programs by Char Eash, Charlene White, Ken Alexander and Landy Chase. She is certified in Dental Radiology from Tufts University. She continues to stay current with advanced technology and contributes numerous ideas to aid in the performance of our office.
Jodi has been married 21 years to her college sweetheart, Joe. She has two children, JD and Taylor, who enjoy travel, hockey, and lacrosse. Her family also enjoys hiking, biking, the beach and keeping up on a good read.
With her background and experience, she prides herself with a gregarious nature, which allows her to see other people’s perspectives without loosing sight of her core values.
